Has it been a week... [20 Jul 2009|09:04pm]
[ mood | indifferent ]

Didn't take long for me to slip with keeping up entries... nothing in a week. I will use my long work shift as an excuse. Sounds like a good one eh. Regardless of the longer work hours I still managed to get a good bit of exercise in on the week. As for what I've been up to, the list is not too long:
1) Played some D&D on Friday night
2) Sanded the doors and drawers on the bathroom vanity in preparation for painting
3) Purchased a new top for said vanity
4) Watched new HP film

Thats the highlights. This week is looking similarly exciting, with the exception of two dental appointments (like 1 wasn't enough).

Side note, today was an incredible day... so I went to work and mowed the lawn.

"Get Off My Lawn" [13 Jul 2009|07:29pm]
[ mood | satisfied ]

It's Monday, so back to the old grind again. I had to go in early today since I am covering off a 10 hour shift this week, which is the suck, but its only for a week, so I will survive, and I get overtime for it too, which is a major plus.

Ran into difficulties on the project at work today. Can't really get into too much detail for a variety of reasons (potential contract annoyances and more significantly, potential technical boredom to reader issues), but lets just say the big thing that moves stuff isn't working so its causing problems.

But enough on work, to the weekend...
I got to see the Hangover on Friday night, which is funnier than you'll be expecting... lets just say the last 5 minutes are the real icing on a very good cake... if you're looking for laughs.

On a different note, on Saturday, there was no concert for me (didn't feel like shelling out $100 for tickets, what a cheepo I am), but I did get to watch Gran Turino, which was, I thought, was a good movie, although Monique found it a little slow.

Sunday was gaming fun... ran a game Sunday morning and played D2 in the afternoon. I felt a little out of character in D2, since it had been so long since I played, but I don't think things went too bad.

Overall... good weekend. Even got a run in after work today. How was your weekend?

Life of an Engineer [09 Jul 2009|10:20pm]
[ mood | relaxed ]

Had a slightly longer than normal day at work today....9.5 hrs. I was doing engineering stuff... which is basically waiting for the contractor to get set up so I can watch what he is doing... as well as peer down little holes with a flashlight while wearing these fashionable white coveralls and booties. If I can get the pictures taken, I will try and post them.

Despite the long day, which was the first full sunny day in two weeks, which I was forced to endure inside all day, I did manage to get a run in after work. Go me. Being lazy and not wanting to cook after work, we ordered pizza for supper... not as go, but hey I did try not to pig out too bad.

Mid Week Update [08 Jul 2009|08:52pm]
[ mood | numb ]

Posting again... the third time in so many days... I'm sure people are thinking the end of the world is upon us. No its just me trying to get back into the habit of writing.

Work today was ok. I was out of the office for most of it, which was good, but there are piles and piles of documents building up waiting for review or signature. Cant win them all. Had to fight with a sticky fuse holder, but I finally got the damn thing open.

Managed to get to the gym last night. First time in about two weeks. Am sore today because of it. I wimped out on going for a run today, choosing the much less energetic half hour of yoga instead. Run is on the radar for tomorrow though. Stayed up too late last night so I was tired. My own damn fault.

Strongly suspect I will be off to a little local concert this weekend. I know very little about music groups and the only remotely recognize the name of one of the acts (and not in a "yeah, I think I heard of them and would be cool to see", but a "Yeah, I think I heard of them, and had no interest in them").

Now I wait for the dryer to finish...

Another Monday [06 Jul 2009|08:18pm]
[ mood | calm ]

Back to the old grind. Work today was nothing too special, which is kinda nice. No frantic fires to put out, no stressful meetings. The most exciting thing that happened to today was I cemented my lead in Hearts pool I play at lunch. Right now I have the highest score for the year and the highest percentage of games in the lead. With only about a month or so left, its looking good for a victory for me.

Took a little run after work where my Shuffle decided that instead of letting me turn it down, it would blast music as loud as it could. Needless to say, I had to take it off, or risk deafness or being back-stabbed by sneaking cars.

Back to JOE [29 Mar 2009|08:50pm]
[ mood | indifferent ]

On my way back to Jolly Ol' England tonight for another week in Newcastle. With luck, this is the new second to last trip over across the pond for work. Yet again, I travel by myself. Here's hoping my luggage survives this one.

Silly things people do [23 Feb 2009|10:26pm]
[ mood | amused ]

In this case, the person is me. Last night while cutting up sweet potatoes for supper, I decided to cut a chunk out of my left index finger. Needless to say, it did not feel to great. With a rapid departure from D2, it was off to the hospital, where I learned that I did cut a few arteries in my finger, hence lots of blood, and no they cant stitch it up.

Today I had to go to the plastics clinic, which was an adventure, since we had a pile of snow, and I cant shovel... needless to say my Aunt came to the rescue. So, no skin graph, just a few weeks of fun healing... I don't recommend the experience to anyone.

Typing without your left index finger is also fun/frustrating.

Off to the UK... again [14 Feb 2009|02:03pm]
[ mood | indifferent ]

I leave this afternoon for another marathon of flights to Newcastle. I though January would be the last time, but nope... I think I got a few more left this year too. This "should" be a short trip, we me back before Friday, but the the last trip I had was to be my last... only time will tell.

The best thing about this trip was all the notice I got... I found out I was going Thursday morning.

Busy Weeks... [07 Sep 2008|04:10pm]
Well, its been a couple of busy weeks for me, so I am taking this weekend to rest and recover, as well as catch up on the pile of housework that has been building up. What happened you over the past two weeks? Let me recap...
- Went to Rick and Megan's wedding reception celebration outside of Boistown. It was only a year and a half after the wedding, but a brain tumor got in the way, so its understandable.
- Visited with friends in F'ton before I&H's wedding.
- Went to said wedding in the 'Chi and saw even more friends and had much fun
- Did more visiting in F'ton
- Ventured down to Atlanta for work for a few days, avoiding the multitude of storms and hurricanes that seem to be plaguing that land.

As you can see a busy couple of weeks... wish I could have made it back up to F'ton to seen I&H before they jet off across the pond, but sick cats and all, and me really needing more than one day home just wasn't in the picture.

Happy Canada Day! and other stuff [01 Jul 2008|07:19pm]
[ mood | cheerful ]

Hope everyone is having a good day. Mine has benn a little shorter than most as I am working tomorrow morning at 06:30, so early night for me. My day was spent zooming home from Fredericton to get the garbage out in the morning (they pick it up on holidays... its only once every two weeks, and we missed the last pickup)... then back to F'ton to visit some friends on the green. A day that was supposed to be cool with showers turned into a nice hot sunny day. It was a good time.

June was a rough month for me with the last two weeks of it taken up by business trips. July is looking a little more interesting, but there are quite a few 6 day weeks, and I'm expecting another couple of weeks of business trips as well... maybe its not as good as I was thinking.

Of to the UK and other places [13 Jun 2008|03:21pm]
Haven't been around the ethernet for much these days since work has me quite busy. Tomorrow I am of to Newcastle, UK for a week. Oh how I love trans-atlantic flights... with six hour layovers in Toronto. Coming back wont be so bad.

Speaking of coming back, I'm home for a full 2 days before I'm back on a plane to Albany, NY. I don't mind traveling for work, I really don't, but these back to back trips are a killer. I had two in February (should have been 3, but one was canceled due to snow), and they are none to fun.

No LotA [03 Dec 2007|05:27pm]
I have to cancel. Friends are visiting tonight (taking refuge from the snowstorm) prior to thier hospital appointment tomorrow. Short notice, I know, but I only found out about it last night, and they were not sure if they would come due to the weather, so I risked it.

If people can agree on a time to play sometime in the next two weeks, I will support it as best I can. Friday and Saturday nights do not work for me.

Happy Birthday and stuff [06 Oct 2007|11:30am]
[ mood | okay ]

Just like to say Happy Birthday to Heather.. hope its a good one!

In other news, I have just returned from my business trip to Newcastle, England. My flight to England went without difficulty, so my flight back had to be troubles... the temporarily lost my luggage in Heathrow, which was found a few minutes late, but within enough time for me to catch my flight out. On the 7+ hour flight back to Canada, my headset jack was busted, so I could amuse myself by "watching" movies and such, but I couldn't listen to anything. I had a book with me, but I finished it in the first hour, so the flight back seemed a little longer than normal. When I arrived in Toronto, a few minutes late, I rush through customs and prepare myself for a sprint to catch my flight back to Saint John, since I only had 30 minutes to catch it, when checking the gate, I find out my flight has been delayed by 2 hours. Typical flight experience for me.

Now I'll just feel four hours ahead for the next couple of days...

The Winner [24 Sep 2007|06:46pm]
[ mood | amused ]

I went to a local gaming convention last week. Played mostly some LG D&D games. I missed the first night since I was flying back from Calgary, and slept in Sunday so I missed the morning session. Overall it was lots of fun, even when I played my lv 1 Marshal on Sunday. Most of the people I was playing with were younger than me, usually at least 10 years younger, and not very experienced. At the end of the game, you vote for which player you think did best. I won every game I played. I didn't think much of it. Since it was a convention there were prizes, but they were usually limited interest RPG books, that while interesting for a read, not something I would really use. I thought that was it for prizes. I was wrong. Sunday I recieve a call from the organizer for the D&D games (I've gamed with him and his sons before, nice guy), who informs me I won the Grand Prize for D&D for the weekend, a vinyl battlemap.

If you play tabletop D&D and have used one of these things, you know how great they are. They're study, you can draw on them with wet errase markers, and they roll up so are easy to carry. To be honest, I was happy with the prize. I've always wanted one for those few times I do get to play tabletop games. So my buddy Rick dropped it off to me this evening. It is HUGE... 9' by 4' 6". I've never seen one that big before... most of the ones I saw were 3' x 3', or maybe 4' x 6'. Its so big, its hard to even roll out. I can't imagine it's very cheap either... must be worth between $50 and $100 dollars. Hopefully the next D&D tabletop game I play at needs a map longer than the range of a heavy crossbow.

Back from Calgary [15 Sep 2007|12:03am]
[ mood | tired ]

Just got back from visiting my sister in Calgary for a week. Was lots of fun, but I am sure she was happy to see me go. Brought my Mom with me, which was quite an experience, as it was her first time flying. I have pictures, but it will take me a little bit to figure out the best way to spread them around. The best one would be of the mountain goat that decided to stick its head in our van. Didn't get it with the head in the van (too surprised by it) but I got one while it was really close.

PS: Happy Birthday Rob

LotA off this week [15 Aug 2007|10:08pm]
Due to lack of input from some players, game is off this week... I will try and reschedule for some time in the next two weeks... with fall approaching, a good question to ask is if Thursday will continue to be a good night for people, or should we look at moving game time. Don't worry about the game ending prematurely. I have my plot planned out within a reasonable number of sessions so we will be able to get through it, even with the August hiccups.

Planning Vacation [19 Apr 2007|06:32pm]
[ mood | hopeful ]

HI all...
long time no post. So I need to plan some post-long hours of work vacation time. I was thinking of taking a week off for Jodie's wedding and wanted to time it so it matches when everyone will be in F'ton. I know people have posted their schedules but compiling them is tough on my limited time budget, so some help would be nice :)
